Most of the flight was a ferry to Japan, but we were able to sample what appeared to be a moderate dust cloud near Japan. Obtained good ice nuclei sampling (spectra) in a couple of locations. Should be good document of dust location and characteristics near Japan. Only minor cloud samples obtained today. Dust appeared to be in somewhat deep layer from about 220 and lower, although horizontal variations were also observed, at one point cleaning up as we continued westbound. Most instruments were working (see accompanying report). A strong headwind enroute prevented more sampling time I have included some photos from today below.
